A little every day adds up

The LinguDay method is simple: 10 new words every day. Small steps build up.

  1. A day 10 words
  2. A week 70 words
  3. A month 300 words
  4. A year 3,650 words

Most everyday conversation uses the few thousand most common words. LinguDay starts with basic, frequent words, so in a year you reach that range.

Questions about learning Portuguese

How do you learn Portuguese?

The most effective way to learn Portuguese is to study a little every day. On LinguDay you learn 10 new words a day with pronunciation and audio, see them in short conversation lessons and reinforce them with a daily test.

Is Portuguese hard to learn?

Portuguese uses the Latin alphabet and its grammar is close to Spanish and Italian. The hard part is the sound: nasal vowels (não, mãe) and, in Portugal, very short unstressed vowels that are almost swallowed. On LinguDay every word’s pronunciation is written in Latin letters with the stressed syllable marked, and you can listen to it.

How long does it take to learn Portuguese?

A few months of regular study is enough for a basic level. With 10 words a day you learn 70 words a week and about 300 a month, reaching 900 words in three months. Speaking fluently also takes listening and speaking practice.

Where can I learn Portuguese for free?

You can learn Portuguese free on LinguDay: 10 words a day, audio pronunciation, beginner and everyday conversation lessons and a daily test are free. No credit card needed.

How do I learn to pronounce Portuguese words?

On LinguDay every word’s pronunciation is written in Latin letters and you can listen to it. So you can start before learning the alphabet and get the pronunciation right from the beginning.

Where should I start learning Portuguese?

Can you learn Portuguese with 10 words a day?

Yes. 10 words a day looks small, but it adds up to 300 words a month and 3,650 a year. With regular review and conversation lessons, these words let you understand everyday conversations.
